This was my 1987 YSR50. I raced this bike from 2001 to 2003 at Prairie City in Rancho Cordova Ca. a few miles outside of Sacramento.
I bought it from an add out of YSR50.com for $900. When I got it it was a basket case. I drove it down to Team Calamari and they built it up to race in the Supersport Class at PC. I ended up blowing the engie at my first practice because I messed up my premix. So Calamari rebuilt my engine again.
It had everything I could add out of the Team Calamari catalog that would still make it legal in the Supersport class. TCR bulit the engine so well that it ran for 3 seasons without a rebuild. I only changed the oil once and never touched the top end. For all 3 seasons it was one of the fastest bikes in my class. Unfortunately I just wasn't good enough to take full advantage of it.
I trophied many times with the bike but I only won one main. The bike was bullet proof. I can't thank TCR enough for building me such a great bike. I only had a couple of problems with it in the 3 years that I raced it. They were primarily due to my lack of regular maintenance on the bike.
I had YSR50.com plastics on it for all 3 years. Overall they held up pretty well. After the first season I used the stock lowers because they could take crashes a lot better. I had the GSXR fiberglass for most of the time but upgraded to the R1 fiberglass when YSR50.com came out with them.
I changed paint schemes every depending on which racer I was rooting for that season. I was a big Haga and Gobert fan and I was really pulling for Valentino Rossi in Moto GP.
I traded my YSR for a salvaged 2002 Honda F4i. I wanted a bike for track days and the F4i fit the bill. I had my GPR and really wasn't going to race the YSR anymore. It would've been nice to keep the YSR for my sons but by the time they are ready to race I'll end up buying them a faster bike than my old trusty YSR. |
